Quiznos and Red Lobster were the first U.S. restaurant chains to launch new menu items for the Lenten season last week – and now other foodservice establishments are joining them.
Red Lobster brought back its Lobsterfest promotion with two new dishes: Ultimate Surf and Turf, which includes a six-ounce filet mignon, Maine lobster tail, and bacon-wrapped sea scallops, and Kung Pao Noodles with Fried Lobster.
In addition, the restaurant chain added a Baja Shrimp Bowl to its regular menu. The dish includes seasoned shrimp, avocado, black beans, quinoa rice, pickled red onion, crispy slaw, pico de gallo, sour cream and tortilla strips with jalapeño ranch. It also recently added Bacon-Wrapped Sea Scallops.
Meanwhile, Denver, Colorado-based Quiznos – which operates around 500 restaurants – brought back its “fan favorite” Lobster Classic sub sandwich and added the Old Bay Lobster Club, “which elevates the lobster and seafood salad with the additions of Old Bay Seasoning, bacon, lettuce, and tomato,” the restaurant company said, per QSR Magazine.
Quiznos’ Lobster Classic includes a lobster and seafood salad with shredded lettuce served on Italian white bread. Both sandwiches are made primarily with lobster, but also include Alaskan pollock, Quiznos said.
Popeyes is also ramping up its Lenten offering with the launch of a Cajun Flounder Sandwich for USD 4.49 (EUR 3.70). Utilizing wild Pacific flounder, the fillet is seasoned in a blend of Popeyes’ Cajun seasoning, dusted in a crispy coating, and fried.
“Popeyes knows that its new Cajun Flounder Sandwich will reset your standards and expectations of a quick-service fish sandwich that they are guaranteeing you will love it by launching 'sandwich insurance,'” the quick-service restaurant chain said in a press release. “For guests who order the new Cajun Flounder Sandwich and don’t like it, Popeyes will replace it with the tried-and-true Chicken Sandwich for free with purchase of insurance on launch day.”
