Moscow, Russia-based Russian Aquaculture has exercised an option to purchase the remainder of a share in a fish processing facility in the Murmansk region.
The company, which farms Atlantic salmon and sea trout in the Barents Sea in the Murmansk region and the White Sea, and trout in the lakes of the Republic of Karelia, purchased the remaining 40 percent share of the “Tri Ruchya and Murmanrybprom” facility it did not previously own for RUB 358.5 million (USD 4.9 million, EUR 4 million), according to a company press release.
The plant has an annual production capacity of 30,000 metric tons and is equipped with modern equipment to process salmon and trout, as well as a refrigerated warehouse. It is “located in convenient transport accessibility from the existing and new farms of the company,” according to Russian Aquaculture.
“The plant meets the high requirements Russian Aquaculture [has] to the quality of products, safety, and compliance with sanitary standards,” the company said.
Russian Aquaculture has made moves this year to increase its vertical integration, with plans to build a salmon and trout smolt hatchery announced in February.
