Bangladesh: September 2019 shrimp sourcing update

As this year’s post-larvae quality was poor, Bangladesh’s production output was expected to be lower. However, the high temperatures of the last months have put extra pressure on shrimp cultivation, resulting in reduced growth and high mortality rates, hence decreasing profits.

Fortunately for farmers, the domestic market is growing and is also more willing to pay for shrimp. And, while it will certainly not cover the production losses, prices are expected to remain stable or slightly increase as the cultivation season comes to an end.
