Vietnam's biggest seafood companies saw export values rise in the first six months of this year due to high demand in the global market, according to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
In the pangasius sector, top exporter Vinh Hoan achieved an export value of USD 226 million (EUR 222.1 million) in the first half of 2022, up 82 percent year-on-year. Other pangasius companies also saw much higher export values, including Bien Dong Seafood, with export value up 41 percent year-on-year; IDI, up 86 percent; Navico, up 41 percent; Van Duc Tien Giang, up 61 percent; Dai Thanh Tien Giang, up 118 percent; and NTFS, up 87 percent.
Shrimp companies also had a successful first half this year. Minh Phu’s export value in the period reached USD 330.86 million (EUR 325.1 million), an increase of 15 percent year-on-year. Although its sales to the U.S. dropped, Minh Phu’s value of exports to other markets such as Japan, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and the E.U. rose by between 34 percent and 53 percent year-on-year.
Other shrimp exporters that saw sales increases in the first six months included Stapimex, with sales of USD 188 million (EUR 184.7 million), up 25 percent year-on-year; CASES, with sales up 47 percent year-on-year; Fimex, with sales up 18 percent year-on-year; Thuan Phuoc, with sales growing 13 percent; Kinh Anh, with export value up 73 percent; and Anpro, with sales jumping by five times from the same period in 2021.
Producers of tuna and other sea fish also saw their export value rise in the first half, including Hai Long Nha Trang, with sales up 58 percent year-on-year; Bidifisco, 33 percent higher year-on-year; Havuco, up 144 percent; Nha Trang Seafood F17, up 34 percent; and Hai Nam, up 67 percent year-on-year.
VASEP has forecast Vietnamese shrimp and tuna companies are likely to have difficulties securing sufficient materials for processing activities through the remainder of 2022, and has predicted slowing demand in major global markets. But the trade group said the country’s seafood sector will still get close to its record export value of USD 10 billion (EUR 9.8 billion) this year, up 12.3 percent from 2021.
