Brazil to promote fisheries trade abroad

Brazil’s fisheries and aquaculture ministry is on a mission to Russia and Poland to promote Brazil’s national fisheries.

Helder Barbalho, minister of fisheries and aquaculture, is working to improve “bi-lateral cooperation” with both countries, according to the ministry. In particular, Barbalho is planning to sign agreements with Poland regarding research, investment and other cooperative efforts.

Helder will also tour trout farms in Russia and farms in Poland that produce tilapia, salmon, trout and herring.

The tours are part of a larger effort by Brazil to improve trade and commerce between itself and the two countries. Helder will be accompanied by representatives of other ministries, including agriculture, defense, mining, energy and other areas. The event follows a major move by a Brazilian company to partner with the neighboring Bolivian government to build an aquaculture complex in that country.
