Supermarket giant Tesco has raised hope of a bright future for a closure-threatened seafood factory, after executives visited the plant to see if it was suitable for some of its UK production.
It is understood that the visit on March 20 sparked a flurry of activity as current Cromer Crab Company staff sought to impress the visitors.
Meanwhile, there is growing hope that the recent purchase of Cumbrian Seafoods by Cromer Crab Company’s parent firm Lion Capital could result in some Cumbrian business being transferred to the north Norfolk coast.
And, having seen staff numbers almost halved to 116 from the 230 at the Holt Road site when owner Young’s Seafood launched consultation into its future in September 2011, it is understood that a surge of orders means there are now not enough people to do all of the work.
