Politics, economics caused South Pacific tuna crisis

The crisis in the Pacific tuna industry is caused more by economic and political factors, not by an actual dwindling of fish stocks.

That’s according to Transform Aqorau, CEO of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement, who is based in Marshall Islands.

He was responding to comments from Graham Southwick, CEO of Fiji Fish Marketing, who says his companies boats are tied up at the wharf and hundreds of workers have been let go because of the impact of subsidized Chinese fishing boats.
