Top 10 new seafood dishes on Lent menus

Several United States restaurant chains recently added seafood dishes to their menus in order to attract diners eating more fish and shellfish during Lent, a fasting season running from 6 March until the Easter holiday in 2019.

Here are the top seafood dishes from 10 different restaurant operators:

  1. Hamburger chain White Castle is bringing back its Seafood Crab Cake Sliders and Shrimp Nibblers. The crab cake is topped with a zesty creole sauce and served on the chain’s  slider bun, The Daily Meal reported. Meanwhile, White Castle’s Shrimp Nibblers are made with butterfly shrimp and served with a choice of four dipping sauces.
  2. Rapid Fired Pizza recently introduced a Shrimp Alfredo Pizza and a Shrimp Scampi pasta dish, which includes shrimp, garlic butter, spinach, Parmesan, and crushed red pepper.
  3. Hamburger chain Jack in the Box launched its Fish Sandwich, made with wild Alaskan pollock. The fish is breaded with panko bread crumbs, topped with creamy tartar sauce and shredded lettuce, and served in a bun.
  4. Poke chain Pokeworks launched a Lava Bowl, which features customer’s seafood poke of choice, ultra-hot ghost peppers, Sriracha, Thai chili and chili threads. “Now that we are in the final stretch of the colder winter months, we wanted to create something that would heat things up in preparation for spring," said Celebrity Chef-Collaborator, Sheldon Simeon, in a press release. ”Inspired by Hawaiian traditions and the goddess of volcanoes, we are thrilled to share the fresh, fiery flavors of the Lava Bowl with guests across the nation." 
  5. Church’s Chicken recently rolled out three dishes: Shrimp ’n’ Tenders Platter, which includes butterfly shrimp and chicken tenders; Crispy Fish Platter, which includes two fish fillets; and Garlic Butter Shrimp, which features fried butterfly shrimp with garlic butter sauce.
  6. Chinese quick service chain Panda Express added Wok-Fired shrimp, which includes marinated shrimp, sugar snap peas, red bell peppers, and other vegetables in a sweet and spicy sauce.
  7. Sub sandwich chain Quiznos launched two sandwiches: Lobster & Seafood Scampi Bake Sub and Chipotle Lobster and Seafood Sub. 
  8. Bojangles rolled out the BojAngler, a battered, fried Alaska pollock fillet that is served on a toasted bun.
  9. Arby’s unveiled three fish sandwiches in January that will be available until the end of April. Its new King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe sandwich features sweet Hawaiian buns and crispy Alaskan pollock. Meanwhile, its Cajun Fish sandwich features breaded and fried Alaskan pollock topped with a Cajun remoulade sauce, and its Crispy Fish sandwich, also made with breaded, fried Alaskan pollock, is topped with tartar sauce and lettuce.
  10. Golden Chick rolled out its Southern Fried Catfish Combo, which is two pieces of fried catfish, French fries, coleslaw and other items.
