One of China’s feed leaders is spending big on new facilities in two key aquaculture regions in response to growing market demand.
Guangdong Yue Hai Group recently broke ground on a new feed production facility in Weihai, on China’s east coast, to service the Shandong and northern Chinese market. The facility, located in the Nan Hai [South China Sea] Industrial Park, is due to come online in late 2018 and will service local fish and shrimp customers. The firm hasn’t yet detailed projected output figures, but a company strategic plan sees it doubling output from the firm’s current figure of two million tons per year when all new facilities are online.
In Jiangsu, construction is already underway on a large new Yue Hai feed processing plant, which will service the growing crayfish industry in inland Chinese regions like Anhui and Hunan.
Located in Jiangsu Province, the plant will also tap into “vigorous” demand for shrimp feed in east coast regions, according to company chair Liang Ai Jun, who addressed media at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Weihai plant.
Yue Hai produces two million tons of feed per year and sells a range of products for freshwater and seawater aquaculture, as well as for the frog-breeding sector. The firm has made inroads on the market share held by the giant Guangdong Haid and Tongwei groups, which also have large pig and poultry feed businesses.
