The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is asking for bids on nearly 8 million pounds of wild Alaska pollock and canned pink salmon.
The government agency is looking to buy 7.98 million pounds worth of pollock and salmon for the National School Lunch Program and other Federal Food and Nutrition Assistance Programs, it said in a notice.
Bids are due on 10 January. The winning suppliers will make deliveries to several U.S. cities from March through June 2022.
The USDA is seeking 3.76 million pounds of Alaska pollock sticks, 1.56 million pounds of pollock nuggets, 1.9 million pounds of pollock fillets, and nearly 757,000 pounds of canned pink salmon.
In December, the USDA also asked suppliers to bid on 302,480 cases of domestic canned red salmon as part of the U.S. government’s Build Back Better Initiative. The salmon will be used in the National School Lunch Program and other Federal Food and Nutrition Assistance Programs, the USDA said in a notice.
The agency also awarded hefty contracts to supply canned pink salmon in November 2021.
