#3: Seafood companies are scrambling to move production, secure new supply chains in response to tariffs

The third most read story of 2025 came as companies were grappling with a sweeping new set of tariffs announced by the Trump administration on 2 April, dubbed “Liberation Day” by the president.

At a panel at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona Spain, which took place from 6 to 8 May in Barcelona, Spain, trade experts said that announcement resulted in a “scramble” for seafood suppliers and distributors working to adapt to the ever-changing trade environment.

“Geopolitical conflicts have disrupted supply chains, consumption trends, and human lives, and then economic and environmental and regulatory changes have put pressure on operators to deliver sustainable, high-quality, desirable products, all while navigating increased market complexity,” Matthew Latimer, managing director and general counsel of ACT Capital Advisors, said during the panel. “In other words, for the seafood industry, this is just another day at the office.”
